From an early age I was always interested in writing humorous poetry about my friends and different situations we had been through – this even involved singing newly written lyrics to backing music of well known songs, causing much hilarity.
As I worked my way through teaching college, I continued with humorous verses about boring lectures (and lecturers!) but also was asked by my employers of my Saturday day job to write a few verses for different occasions and different colleagues, ranging from retirements to wedding verses.
Having qualified as a teacher, I utilised my poetry skills with children, helping them understand rhyming techniques, and, when teaching infants new phonemes and blends, if there was no suitable material, I’d make up my own verses eg. Cheeky Charlie went to town, chomping chunky chocolate down etc. to teach the children ‘ch’.
For the last ten years I have written poems for nearly every occasion possible, and instead of just being about people I knew personally, I have diverged into poems for friends of friends, and families of friends (whom I did not know) and used information given to me about the recipient. These details were then converted into a finished rhyming, personalised poem, and due to their success, this has led me into my business - Your Perfect Poem - which I truly believe to be an exceptionally unique gift that can be given to a loved one.
I still work part time as a Primary teacher, however I now have the free time to expand my poetry business, and have also written a children’s fictional rhyming book and other phoneme poems, which I hope to have published in the near future.
